That said, there are collegiate programs and hundreds of sailing schools, clubs, and camps which offer different levels of instruction and ASA certification. Before you can begin looking for a sailing course, club or school, there are a few factors you should consider:
- Sailing Focus: What kind of sailing do you want to learn? Sailing activities include basic sailing, racing, cruising, spinnaker work, navigation, and more.

- Chicago Sailing : Chicago 's premier sailing school. Offers eight primary courses from basic sailing to advanced coastal navigation or racing. Courses use 22-53 foot sailing vessels. Most courses meet regularly for 10-20 instructional hours.
- Blue Water : Unique to Blue Water, sailors stay onboard for a full week in all courses. Sailors generally gain two ASA certifications per course. Locations in Florida , the Virgin Islands , and Rhode Island .
